Quantum Cascade Laser and Detector
Contract Opportunity Analysis
The Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in support of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, is seeking to acquire a quantum cascade laser system, detector, and cooler. This equipment, which includes a LaserTune-S package with a Block QCL Tuner, an MCT VIGO IR Detection Module, and a VIGO Thermocooler, will support the development of a real-time respirable crystalline silica monitor. Deliverables must be shipped FOB Destination to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania within 120 calendar days after contract award, and any proposed use of artificial intelligence during contract performance requires the submission of a specialized compliance and risk management plan. Although the government intends to negotiate this acquisition on a sole-source basis with Block Engineering LLC, alternative quotations and capability statements will be considered and must be submitted electronically to Alyssa Thomas at ah78@cdc.gov by September 23, 2026.
