Contract Opportunity Analysis

The Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory is seeking industry partners to collaborate on the commercialization and advancement of an innovative adsorptive recovery method for Heavy Rare Earth Elements and Critical Minerals. The selected partner will work to scale and commercialize this patented process, which utilizes physical feedstock pre-concentration and an adsorptive technology with a pH-swing regeneration operation to recover minerals like Gallium, Germanium, Vanadium, Cobalt, and Nickel from coal derivatives. The technology is currently at a technology readiness level of 3 to 5, featuring a processing time of less than five minutes, high selectivity over fouling metals, and potential applications in coal refuse, mine tailings, and acid mine drainage. Interested parties must submit an electronic or written statement of interest detailing their company information, point of contact, and relevant expertise to partnerships@netl.doe.gov.
