Sources Sought Notice: Amplifiers and digitizers for use in electrophysiology experiments The Department of Health and Human Services, Department of, National Institutes of Health, National Institutes of Health NIDA, has issued a Sources Sought notice for the procurement of amplifiers and digitizers. These equipment will be used for examining the cellular excitability of neurons located in the midbrain dopamine system and basal ganglia. The amplifiers must have external trigger command or user-programmable voltage threshold for rapid, automatic mode-switching between current and voltage-clamp. They should also be able to detect current or voltage oscillations and automatically disable or reduce compensation settings to protect the cell from damage. Additionally, the amplifiers must include a dual headstage system to record simultaneously in two independent channels and have computer control software for automation of various functions. The digitizers must be compatible with pClamp software and have the ability to sample at 500 kHz per channel. They should also have a humsilencer to eliminate line-frequency noise and be a low-noise data acquisition system with adaptive noise cancellation. The contractor will be required to provide a warranty for the equipment for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of installation, inspection, and acceptance by the Government. Delivery of the equipment should be completed within six (6) months after receipt of order. Interested companies are encouraged to submit a capability statement addressing each of the project requirements, including the total number of employees, professional qualifications of personnel, and any relevant government-wide acquisition contracts. The response should also include the company's name, Unique Entity ID from SAM.gov, physical address, and point of contact information. Small businesses are particularly encouraged to respond. The response must be submitted electronically to the Contract Specialist and Contracting Officer by July 30, 2024, 5 pm Eastern Time. Please note that this notice is for research and information purposes only, and no award will be made as a result of this notice. The Government will not be responsible for any costs incurred by respondents.

These equipment will be used in electrophysiology experiments to examine the cellular excitability of neurons located in the midbrain dopamine system and basal ganglia. The purpose of this requirement is to acquire the necessary equipment to support research in the Cellular Neurophysiology Section (CNS) focused on the circuit and cellular properties of neurons. Specifically, the CNS is interested in understanding how synaptic and intrinsic conductances expressed on dopamine neurons differ among subpopulations, particularly calcium permeable conductances such as voltage-gated calcium channels and glutamate-activated receptors. This research aims to provide insight into why dopamine neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) are particularly vulnerable in Parkinson's disease. The project requires two amplifiers and two digitizers that meet specific requirements. The amplifiers must have features such as external trigger command, automatic mode-switching between current and voltage-clamp, and the ability to detect and protect the cell from damage. The digitizers must be compatible with pClamp software, sample at 500 kHz per channel, and have a humsilencer to eliminate line-frequency noise.
