Advantage Environmental & Safety Services (AESS) conducted a limited asbestos and lead survey on July 8, 2026, at the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Pacific Strike Team facility in Novato, California. Prepared for Hangar #1, the survey evaluated the Men’s South Locker Room, Men’s North Locker Room, and the Women’s Locker Room/Training Room to support planned maintenance, renovation, or abatement activities. Analytical testing of 20 bulk asbestos samples (41 layers) identified chrysotile asbestos in the Men’s South Locker Room. Specifically, the underlying mastic in the East corner contained 4% chrysotile, and both the 12x12-inch floor tile and mastic in the Northeast corner contained 2% chrysotile. AESS recommends utilizing a licensed asbestos abatement contractor to remove these materials under Cal/OSHA and NESHAP standards before any disturbance. Four bulk paint samples were analyzed for lead content. Although none of the samples exceeded the federal threshold for lead-based paint (≥0.50% by weight), detectable lead was found in three samples.
