Sources Sought Notice - Automated Vehicle Shuttle Demonstration in Washington D.C.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is conducting market research through a Sources Sought Notice (693JJ3-26-SS-0005) for organizations capable of demonstrating an L3/4 automated transit shuttle bus in Washington D.C. The demonstration will coincide with America’s 250th-anniversary celebration (America250) from June to August 2026. The project aims to assess current technology maturity, inform research needs by gathering data, and raise public and stakeholder awareness. The automated shuttle must be ready for safe demonstration on public roads, distinct from existing robotaxi services, and comply with federal requirements (FMVSS, ADA, Buy America). The chosen route must be suitable for successful demonstration and approved by relevant agencies. The demonstration will involve approximately 250 hours over three months, covering various environmental conditions and times. Two high-profile showcase events are also planned. Responses, limited to five pages, are due by January 21, 2026, and should include company information, prior experience with AV shuttle services on public roads, and feedback on the requirement's scope and commerciality.
